YOUR DATA
AT LE COMMUNAL

What we receive, why, who else sees it, and how to have it removed.

Scroll

Draft: text to be approved by Le Communal before going live. Highlighted passages still need filling in.

Who is responsible

Le Communal, operated by Le 1 Place du Village SA, Place du Village 1, 1873 Val-d’Illiez, Switzerland. For any question about your data: hello@communal-valdilliez.ch.

We apply the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, for guests who live in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What we receive, and why

The contact form

Your name, your email, your phone number if you give it, the topic you chose and your message. If you come from Léon and leave it attached, a summary of your conversation and your language. All of this is used to reply to you and for nothing else: no newsletter, no selling it on.

Table requests for Le Caveau

Your name, email, phone number, the date, time and number of guests and, if you give them, your dietary needs, the occasion and your note. We keep them on our server to plan the evening and reply to you. You receive a copy of your request by email. To limit abuse we keep a one-way fingerprint of your IP address for 48 hours, never the address itself.

Léon

Your questions and its answers, the language you chose, the page you were on and, if you give it, your feedback (thumbs up or down). Léon doesn’t ask for your name, your email or any payment details. Its answers are automatic. Please don’t write personal information there; that’s what the form is for.

Bookings

Bookings go through Mews, our reservation system. Mews receives what it needs to hold the booking: name, contact details, dates, guests and payment. Mews (Mews Systems B.V., Amsterdam) explains this in its privacy policy.

While you browse

No advertising cookies, no audience measurement. The site keeps two or three technical settings in your browser (the direction of page transitions, whether you’ve already seen the map help). They never leave your device.

Who else processes it

A few providers, each for one specific job:

  • Hetzner (European Union): hosts the site, the form and the table requests.
  • Infomaniak (Switzerland): our email. Messages from the form arrive there directly.
  • SourceKB (European Union): runs Léon. Conversations are stored with Hetzner in Helsinki (Finland).
  • Mews (Netherlands): bookings and stays.
  • swisstopo, Esri and jsDelivr: provide the relief, the aerial images and the map engine, and only if you open the map.

Outside Switzerland

None of your data leaves Switzerland and the European Union. Messages from the form go through our own email, hosted in Switzerland by Infomaniak. The site, Léon (SourceKB, hosted by Hetzner) and Mews are in the European Union, which Switzerland recognises as providing adequate protection.

How long

  • Form messages: 12 months after we receive them, then deleted from our mailbox.
  • Le Caveau table requests: 12 months after the evening, then deleted; encrypted backups are gone within the following 30 days.
  • Conversations with Léon: 90 days after the last message, then deleted. If you ask us to delete one sooner (tell us when and from which page), it’s immediate; encrypted backups normally disappear within the following 14 days.
  • Bookings and the arrival form: ten years after the end of the financial year, as the Swiss Code of Obligations requires for accounts (art. 958f CO). The arrival form is required by the Valais law on accommodation (art. 15 LHR), and the cantonal police may consult it.

Your rights

You can ask what we know about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use. Write to hello@communal-valdilliez.ch, or use the form: a person from Le Communal will reply.

If you’re not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, if you live in the European Union, the data protection authority in your country.
